A Somewhat Open Letter To My Baby

This morning, I woke up feeling a little discouraged and a lot anxious. My due date was yesterday and no baby yet. I know, I know. Babies don't usually come on their due date but I was REALLY thinking it was going to happen! Maybe I'm crazy, but I spend a lot of time talking to my baby, sometimes out loud but mostly in my head. She's with me all the time and she's a great listener! Hardly ever interrupts me! Today, I decided to write her a letter and this is how it went:



Dear Baby Girl,

Please come out... Your due date has officially come and gone which means you are officially unwelcome in my uterus. I know you're probably cozy and warm in there but I promise it's nice out here too! I have lots of blankets and cute comfy clothes to snuggle you in as soon as you get here! Or you can be naked if that's what you prefer, I won't judge! And, there's lots of room to grow! You can't like your knees jamming into your face all the time so might as well come out before you grow any bigger and make us both more miserable. Maybe you're scared to come by yourself and you're waiting, holding hands with some other baby up in heaven, standing on the edge just too scared to jump. Don't be a chicken! The water's fine!

If you don't feel like coming out for your sake, please do it for me! If you spend much more time in there playing my ribs like a xylophone and my bladder like a soccer ball, we're going to have problems. To be honest, I think you're a little bit of a brat. Im sure you've heard me call you that and I'm sorry. But what am I supposed to think when I am having an already uncomfortable contraction and you decide it's the perfect time to stretch as big as you can so that it feels like you're stabbing my insides? Or when I am just tired and want to rest on my side or rest my arms on my belly and you immediately attack whatever is in/on/near "your space?" That seems a little bratty to me... I know that's not very fair, I'm sure you're an angel. I guess I'll cut you some slack and change my mind... As long as you get here soon!

Well now I feel bad. I'm already scolding you and you probably have no idea what's going on out here. Listen, little girl. Bottom line, I already love you. There's nothing to be scared of! I don't know why you haven't come yet, but please don't make me wait another 8 days before the doctors force you out! There are so many people who want to meet you!!! Obviously your dad and I are the most excited and anxious for you to make your debut, but there are plenty of others! You have lots of aunts and uncles and cousins who are so excited to play with you! Not to mention you're getting the four best Grandparents in the history of forever! Your grandma Katz has already been here a week just in case you decided to come early! I promise they will spoil you and give you treats when your dad and I aren't looking. You also have so many little friends waiting for you! Possibly even your future husband! Trust me, he's a cutie.

Anyway, I love you so much already and I don't even know you. I can't wait to hold you and snuggle you and sometimes squeeze you too tight when I just can't handle your little body! I promise I will give you the best life and be the best mom I can! So please come soon so we can get this party started!
